Brittanys are a compact sporting dog originally developed for bird hunting in the Brittany region of France, with documented accounts of the breed as early as the 1700's. Known for their energy, stamina and intelligence, Brittanys excel at not just hunting, but any pursuit that engages their drive, intellect and willingness to please.      While Brittanys are highly affectionate and love spending time in the laps of their humans, they are also highly energetic and require exercise on a daily basis. While they make excellent companion dogs and are easily house broken and leash trained, they benefit greatly from being in the outdoors, where they will spend countless hours watching for and stalking birds and squirrels. Members of the breed naturally stalk and point with no prior training, and so are readily trainable to participate in their ancestral pursuit of bird hunting.
